Peter Symonds College

Peter Symonds College is a sixth form college based in the heart of Winchester with a national reputation for excellence. It has recently achieved an Outstanding Ofsted report in every area and has been awarded Beacon Status which recognises innovation and outstanding performance in teaching, management and leadership.

The origins of the original school date back to the 16th century, but it became an open access college in 1974. Since this time the college has grown enormously to where it now stands catering for over 4000 students.

As well as the main campus, Peter Symonds College has a separate adult learning facility, ACE, which offers a second chance at higher education.

TKL Architects has a long and successful relationship with college since coming together in 1995, which continues to this day. In total, the Practice has been commissioned to undertake over 30 projects on both the main campus and at ACE. These have included classrooms, music, art and photographic studios, dormitories, administration and management facilities, social, restaurant, cafe and kitchens, learner support and sports facilities.

The projects have included feasibility studies, access audits, refurbishments, new build developments and masterplanning.
