Breast Imaging Unit, RSH Hospital
Client: Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust
Value: £400,000
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
In order to implement the national Breast Screening Programme Southampton University Hospitals Trust needed to expand the existing Breast Screening Unit at the Royal South Hants Hospital . This development was seen as a natural part of redefining the RSH into a flagship treatment centre offering local people modern, high quality elective care. The unit aims to provide diagnostic services for both the region and local community whilst complementing front end research.
The project demanded extensive consultation with clinical staff to develop the briefing documentation, room data sheets and layouts, followed by continual liaison to ensure patient services were maintained throughout the construction period. To facilitate this the scheme was broken down into two phases in addition to creating proactive and successful working relationships between the Design team, Client team and Contractor.
The scheme was developed against a backdrop of financial constraints calling upon our expertise to meet high clinical standards, the demands of a modern facility and the necessity to transform the formerly institutional environment into a more, relaxed and attractive unit. The juxtaposition of tonal colour, patterns and soft furnishings were used sensitively to create an interesting but ‘passive' department. |
