Westinghouse Brakes UK Limited

The brief from Westinghouse Brakes (UK) Limited was for a large, modern building which combined a front of house shop window, flexible office accommodation, together with a 5,000sqm workshop area suitable for both industrial and technical operations.

The resulting 10,000sqm portal framed steel structure, using curved Westok cellular beams spanning 60m, provides a seven metre clear internal height sufficient for both two-storey offices and a variety of industrial processes.

Materials for the building were selected to reflect the technological nature of the activities within and to assist in the speed of construction.
As Westinghouse is an industrial design and assembly operation, the various forms of profiled metal cladding echo the nature of its business.

The orientation of the building ensures that the main entrance is visible from the site access point, as is the canopy covering the main drop off point. The entrance itself has been accentuated with white, metal clad, cross walls breaking through the roof profile to emphasise its position and assist in way-finding.
