Andover Data Centre

The project is for a 760sqm two storey extension to a Data Centre which was originally constructed in 1989.

The extension provides additional engineering services with sufficient capacity to serve not only the existing building, but also future phased extension which is currently being designed by TKL Architects.

The existing building is a two-storey structure comprising a steel frame on piled foundations with concrete floors and roof. External cladding is a composite insulated panel with steel faces fixed to secondary steelwork. There is a considerable amount of services plant on the roof, whilst to the east of the building is a free-standing generator building and a large diesel storage tank in a bunded enclosure.

The extension use materials to complement the existing design, and does not compete with its mass and form. As it is a service space, it should be subservient to the data centre proper, hence the lower cascading parapet line.
