St Mary Street

The site covers three buildings, two of which are retail with residential above whilst the other is derelict. The scheme proposes to demolish the site and construct a new four storey block plus basement with 8 flats ranging from studio to two bed, with a restaurant to the ground and basement level.

The site cover a corner location which the design aims to emphasize with a recessed ground floor with prominent bay windows above.
These will offer the flats views along the entire street.

The materials have been chosen to complement the existing buildings which are a mixture of brick and render many of which are quite quirky.
The primary finish is to be dark brick with areas of white render, together with highlights in timber boarding and red aluminium window surrounds. The top floor is recessed to minimize the impact upon the neighbours and is to be clad in light coloured metal.

Recent developments nearby have aimed for a traditional approach to tidy up the street scene, but their uniformity has removed some of the inherent character of the area which the new development endeavors to complement rather than stultify.
